The U.K. began voting today (June 23rd, 2016), in a national referendum on whether or not to leave the European Union. Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. (U.K. time) with a record-setting 46.5 million people registered to cast their ballot by 10 p.m. over what has been dubbed the “Brexit”.
Early voters reported lines at polling stations despite torrential rain in London that caused localized floods, disrupting train services and even blocking roads.
As numbers are starting to be reported, the earliest numbers are showing the majority of Britain’s citizens have voted to leave. This is a monumental step for Europe and will affect everyone in the world. This is a vote for sovereignty and it is showing people are taking a stand. This is a vote AGAINST world government.
The European Union – often referred to as the EU – is an economic and political partnership involving 28 European countries. Click HERE for a full list of all countries. It began after WWII, to foster economic cooperation, with the idea that countries which trade together are more likely to avoid going to war with each other. It has since grown to become a “single market” allowing goods and people to move around, basically as if the member states were one country. It has its own currency- the euro, which is used by 19 of the 28 member countries. It has its own parliament, which now sets rules in a wide range of areas – including on the environment, transport, consumer rights and even things like mobile phone charges.
The U.K. is taking a stand and I applaud them. If others choose to follow suit, the large monopoly of one-percenters will slowly lose their hold. They are watching their deadly grasp on humanity slip away… Bwahahahahaha!
