HI Jim, On Oct 8th FB answered me again and said they r aware that there r many people with the same problem and they asked me to be patient as they r looking into this. I also told them that their FB support tech when called is answered in India and wanted to charge me 50.00 to fix the problem . So I am keeping up with communication with a gentleman whose name is Hogan. He has been responding but as the weeks go by not sure if we will ever get it back. I have a lady on Microsoft that I keep in touch with as they same exact thing is happening to her, so I informed her of this site and we shall see what FB does. But I will keep on keepin on till I have exhausted all avenues. Thanks Carrie

Hi Jim, just want to let you know that I got into FB yesterday thru IE not Edge. Don’t know if I can get on thru Edge as I haven’t tried it since I’m getting in on IE I don’t want to rock the boat yet. When I got on I went to the help center and told them to see if I was being blocked and to unblock me or check my IP address to see if that was being blocked. A little after that my husband came to my computer went on IE and got my FB up. So far its working, don’t know why or what happened but I will go with it for now. I should still her from them by Oct 29th. I hope this helps anyone else with the same problem. FB has not told me what the problem is or was. But I am on with IE. I sure hope you will get the same outcome. I am thrilled yet a little cautious. Carrie

First of all the majority Facebook’s users do NOT live in the U.S. yet we are all having issues. We don’t CARE about your politics so therefore we aren’t posting about them. NOT political! Secondly MANY people have had their accounts go down and come back up. I haven’t heard even ONE person mention having to give any form of I.D. to get back their account in this situation.Thirdly you seem to dislike everything about Facebook so why are you so concerned that you’ve lost it?
    But since you asked…
    https://downdetector.com/status/facebook

    and I also use http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/facebook.com.html

also…don’t pay too much attention to the opinions of others. They don’t know what’s causing the problems and they don’t have the answers to them either. Go with your own common sense and wait it out like the rest of us (Day 15 here). Facebook is a free site and to be honest they don’t owe us anything. It is very inconvenient and frustrating to be sure but unless you’ve paid for something you’re not getting there isn’t much else to do but wait.

Rita, Good Morning… I know your post wasn’t directed to me but I wanted to share my opinion. I agree with Facebook being free and owing us nothing. My concern is not that they are down and I cannot login to Facebook. It’s the lack of acknowledgement that there is an issue and an attempt to communicate that to the thousands of people that are without. In addition, for many, Facebook is not free because they are using it as a business mechanism, therefore, people are paying for advertising.

Regardless of what the issue is, I think it would be proper to communicate to the public that there is a problem and they are working on it…

      Just my opinion.

I agree with Jim. I have been very upset because we have no communication as to why this is happening. And Rita, there have been people that have been targeted because of their political beliefs! And thirdly Rita I was on a site that said that FB wants ID for anyone trying to get back in as Of Sept 15th.It was a site about FB’s problems, don’t remember as I am on many sites. And Rita, its not that I dislike FB, its that I am upset they do NOTHING to let us know. I thought it was my computer and took it to the geeks, got Microsoft to take over my computer twice to see and had my anti virus take over my computer to see if they could find anything. If FB would of at least gave us an explanation I wouldn’t have had to go thru hell thinking it was my computer and almost willing to pay someone who said they could fix it. Its really none of ur business Rita so stick to the point. I have been down for 3 weeks, 21 days today with no word from Fb. I even mailed them a letter also. NOTHING! So get off ur high horse Rita

I read yesterday that as of 2015, if your site goes down that they will not let you back in unless you give them ID. Like drivers license, past port, voter registration and whole list they named. Many are saying FB is a disaster and they will NOT give them things like that just to get back on. I wont either so if it doesn’t come back I will live without it. FB has become discriminatory against peoples political views. I cant stand Mark Zuckerberg. I find it odd that probably half the people who play Egg Buddies have been affected which is an unusually high percentage compared to everyone else. Yet it is not specific to that game. They’ve been all over the message board there for the past 2 weeks and longer. Yet nobody in my personal life has been affected. There has to be a common factor but I can’t determine what it is. We run different operating systems, use different browsers, reside all over the world, some use phones, some laptops, some tablets. Some get their FB back for a couple of hours, some get it back without further incident but they have changed nothing. Why were we chosen?

I got hold of tech support for FB and they were in India and said they could fix it for 50.00 and that it was a windows 10 problem but my husband can get this FB on my computer and his computer and He cant get my Fb on his computer nor mine as he get a white screen on his when trying to get my FB up. He has window 7. We have tied on different computers, phones etc. cant get my FB up. I sent them a letter in Menlo Prk Ca besides filing a BBB report on them. They have poor customer service and they should let their members now when there is a problem. Horrible can call, no answering emails, cant get on FB to get support help. A friend got me their tech support but I’m not paying 50.00 for something that is their problem and it was INdia!. I am fed up with FB. If they could let us know there is a problem and they r working on it at least we all would know this. I do get the same thing everyone else does”somethng went wrong were trying to fix it” and its garbage. Anyone who want to file a complaint with the BBB it is the BBB in Oakland Ca. In the mean time, do NOT pay someone to fix this problem. It has nothing to do with your computer or windows 10. I have windows 7 so it’s not the operating system nor is it the browser.

Carrie, please do not pay anyone, anything, to fix this problem. Those are outside companies who are at best unable to fix this problem and and at worst (which is the more likely guess) scammers. I also don’t know if the BBB, would have much interest with this problem, considering that facebook is a free service. However, your idea of contacting the media is something that might help. Even if a push of code affected 1 million users at a time, that is still 1/1000th of the 1 billion users just celebrated by facebook right when this is happening…

Since I have gotten access back, I don’t notice any changes, nor did anyone I know, even the most vocal ones… have not seen this happen to them.

Just stopping by to let ya’ll know my FB is still working for whatever the reason was that made it do so. I do find it odd that Egg Buddies dropped the word “game” from their URL. I still think FB was putting the pressure on them to distance themselves from FB because in those pop up security boxes it first asked us to drop the link before having to look for tigers, wristwatches, etc.. I’m going to miss playing that game but being without FB for 5 days was 5 days too long so I will no longer play Egg Buddies. Today when you try to send an egg or reply to someone’s post, a large box opens up telling you to get rid of the eggbuddiesgam.com but if you don’t you have to look at a whole bunch of tigers, wristwatches, etc. and click on whatever they tell you. In my quest to find a working phone number for fb, I came upon some interesting information. I searched for a Facbook Shareholder page, but to my surprise there are NO contact phone numbers, not even an email message site. But that’s not the really interesting aspect of my discovery. – I came upon a story published in the LA Times. Here’s the summation: Facebooks’ stock offering was structured in a way that does not allow shareholders to have any say, in how the company is run. Mark Z has 57% ownership, at all times. It does not matter how many shares anyone else owns, or how many shareholders get together and vote as a block, Mark Z’s holdings will over over ride anyones else’s vote. Further, Facebook only went public because it is mandated by law, that when a privately held company reaches a certain amount of shareholders, it must go public. Therefore, Mark Z was forced to have fb go public, but strutured the public offering in such a way as for him to be able to retain it, the same way a closely held private corp.In other words Mark Z, answers to NO ONE. It makes so much more sense now, that this global outage has not made the news.

Yes, the possibility that the outage is intentional cannot be dismissed. It would then follow, that Mark Z would all the more not let this problem go public, because the only other group left for him to answer to, would be the advertisers, who would not stand silent.

I’m very glad for you. I am not one bit tech savvy and don’t even own a cell phone. I have read at least one other comment, that mentioned using a blackberry, because of its older technology, it works in getting around the problem.

  • I FOUND A WORKAROUND TO GET IN!!!

in look at the code I noticed it also had a moble web address

m.facebook.com and the “m” is for “mobile” so just for laughs (and because I am an IT guy…) I clicked on it and lo-and behold….

    I GOT IN!!!

Now it looks way different on my chrome browser because I am accessing the site that is formated for my blackberry facebook app

    BUT I GOT IN!!!

Try it and tell me if it works for you.

    m.facebook.com

  • I got a response from the post I put on their youtube/google+ page:

[Thanks for reaching out, +Thomas Ferraro. If you’re still experiencing problems with blank pages, please let us know: http://on.fb.me/18dEFaD. -Sidney]

Notice they send me a link to yet another facebook page… to which I get

    “Error
    Sorry, something went wrong.

We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.

    Go Back

    Help”

So I responded telling them it doesn’t help but this time I also told them I did analysis of the html on the blank page and it is infact a state page coming from them including the cascade style sheet “https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/v2/ya/r/kdErrz2GuVx.css”
    and the java script
    “https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/v2/yO/r/HEHg7hgYkh_.js”

So it will be interesting to see how long it takes and what kind of response I get out of this one…

    • …and I just had a thought… if anyone here has a mobile device like a laptop that sees the blank page while connected wherever you are now, if you go to some other location like say from home to work or home to a starbucks where they have wifi and try to connect there… I wonder if you get the same result.

the reason I though this is… my laptop at home gets a blank screen… but my blackberry works fine… and they are on two different ip addresses and two different internet providers… UVerse at home and Virgin Mobile on my blackberry…

So I am wondering if anyone has tested that

Further to the issue, I received this from Facebook via LinkedIn, so they do know of the issue now I presume,

FacebookFacebook Hi Maxine – We’re opening a help task to look into this issue. In the interim, feel free to email facebooklife@fb.com to connect directly.

I have used two other working Facebook accounts to report problems. I don’t know if anyone reads them but it might be an idea for more people to do. You have to use a different browser of course because you can’t log out of the account you are trying to access. We can’t get to them from the outside it seems so we have to get them from the inside.

  • Personally I give up. I am done… and if facebook does ever fix this issue, I will be deleting my personal page and moving my business pages to a host site.

Social Media as an experiment is a failure, all it’s done is make spam and trolls and the roman colosseum mentality go viral on steroids.

It is not worth all of this… not one damned bit!

Thanks so much. I have begun to visit other country pages through, downdetector.com, to see if I can gain any insight into this Facebook problem. It seems, so far that no one really knows anything. And also never a mention of anyone hearing a word about this on any media outlet.

If I didn’t use facebook as a business tool, I wouldn’t have much interest in this problem. Although I wouldn’t go so far as to say that social media as an experiment is a total failure, from my experience. When we here in Rockaway Beach, NYC were slammed by super storm Sandy, fb did become a life line for those of us who able to evacuate some days after the storm hit. We were able to convert our damaged store front into a heating and feeding shelter, for thousands of our neighbors who could not leave. Facebook was the only way we could recruit volunteers and direct donations to those in need. So for that, I have appreciation to Facebook. But given that 90% of social media is pretty much emotionally vacant space, I in that regard, I agree with your assessment of it being a failure.

It’s starting to feel very Sci-fi.There are more than 14,000 comments on downdetector.com, with new commentors posting about the same white screen problem.

    I sent a message just now… don’t know if or when I will get a reply… or a server rejection notice…

On the first day of the fb white page, I thought it a little odd, that fb wouldn’t or couldn’t repair the problem within an hour or two, by the second and third day, I found it increasingly strange that thousands and thousands of fb users were being affected and fb remained silent. As of today, I’m mystified. If I have the time, I will search for any phone number for fb, they have to have phone numbers for their ad dept. or a number for their shareholders.

  • Among the many alternative ways I tried to communicate the problem, I posted on their Youtube channel. At first nothing… then a couple days ago some idiot user tried to tell me how it was a proxy problem but they are not a facebook rep, just a troll.

Just now, I received a reply from Facebook on youtube…. here is what they said.

“Hey there, +Thomas Ferraro. Thanks for reaching out. Here are some tips to help with troubleshooting your News Feed: http://on.fb.me/1AoZhtZ. If you are still having trouble, please report it using these steps: http://on.fb.me/1pdq7jS. Hope this helps! -Sidney”

So once again they resort to the moronic default response as if reading from a telemarketer script.

My response to them was as follows:

    “+FACEBOOK

Sidney You do not understand… ALL FACEBOOK LINKS produce two things… 1) a blank page 2) an error page that says “ERROR – Sorry, something went wrong”

This isn’t an isolated issue… millions all over the planet are experiencing this… I have read your twitter responses… all say go to a facebook link that results in either a blank page or an error page.

WE ARE STUCK WITH NO SOLUTION!!!

If you went to downdetector and read that comments under Thomas Ferraro or go to twitter and read the tweets under SOGPMusic that have been posted to facebook you will see screenshots of the problem. But until you actually respond with a solution outside of just going to another link… again…

WE ARE STUCK WITH NO SOLUTION!!!”

  • Well slowly this is gaining attention, I am seeing more results in google searches on “Facebook blank page” and there are users in the mac world on the apple discussions thread… its a good news bad news thing… bad news… this happened before in May 2013 with identical blank page issues… the good news is now there is a new thread as of this morning. So more people are talking and posting about it…

Chances are since its the weekend, there probably won’t be any kind of news until tomorrow if any of the media outlets pick up the story and run with it… fingers crossed.

My fb page still down as of Sept.10, 2015. Location: NYC.
I have left a message with ABC News and have attempted to contact, my hometwn paper The Wave, in Rockaway Beach, NYC. It would be a good idea, for all of us to contact as many media outlets as possible.

I play a Facebook game that has it’s own URL and we can access the game that way. Everyone is complaining about not being able to access Facebook, some from as long as a week ago. My page disappeared on the evening of Sept 11. I have another account so I changed browsers and signed onto that account from the same laptop as I’ve been using. The other account was up and running. I found an email for Facebook and sent them a message yesterday. Didn’t even receive the auto-response. Some accounts have come back since they’ve been gone, most have not.

  • Well after search Facebooks twitter page… I finally found someone who complained and they responded… with the most arrogant response possible…

@(twitter handle deleted) “We’re sorry to hear that, (name deleted) Learn how to report this issue to us: http://on.fb.me/1NrW1qp . Thanks! -AO

This is of course a facebook link that either shows a blank page or the error page “Sorry, something went wrong”

I replied to that tweet advising them that the link they provide cannot be used because of the problem and sent them two pics (blank page and error page) in response.

FYI, I sent an email to ABC, CBS and CNBC weekend editions and then MSNBC and Rachel Maddow’s show…

You have no chance of Facebook admitting to this. I have messaged six times a day, on twitter, linked in, fb fault report, and sent images on instagram. I explained i have lost £327 fom customers i should have been doing wok for in regards to facebook and social media. The photos of my family and dad who died recently on there. I cant access.
They will not reply as that means they admit to a fault, when theyre trying to raise publicity for other things. Try twitter. They will answer messages from 40 mins ago, but not one regarding a fault 10 mins ago or 42 mins ago. Same on Linked In.

  • This biggest problem is this a) most “are they up or down” sites ping an ip address to determine response time… that only verifies the server is online.

    b) this is a not simply a user profile issue in that I know my FB page is still there, others can see when I click on share or make comments on a post or use my blackberry.

This appears to be a webserver configuration file that responds to a user based on the device used to access. You get the mobile version of facebook on your phone because you are using an app to access FB and not a browser.

    c) There is no way for Facebook to know about it if the only way you can contact facebook to report a problem is through facebook.

    d) with 99.9% of users… a locked door gets a shoulder shrug and then walk away… very few people other than you or I would look for other ways to at least get someone to look out the window… sometimes you do have to throw stones at glass houses.

Excellent insight. Hopefully this blog can get the right exposure so someone can look at this issue. This kind of exposes how flawed the resolution process can be given the right circumstances.

  • I too have been suffering from this on my PC but not my blackberry (too old to be affected?) and its very weird to be able to use almost every function of facebook… but only from outside of facebook. I discovered that when I logged out of facebook I could go to facebook.com and click on the “search” link and look at pages of sites and users… but I could NOT search my own personal facebook page. When I try it said there were no pages by that name…

Now when you are logged out of facebook you can’t comment or share or like anything… you have to log in for that… but as soon as you do… it turns to a blank page. However if I go to any other site on the internet and click on a post (like this one) I can like, share and add comments…

I know this because on my blackberry I can surf facebook logged in… and I can see all these remote posts I put up there from my PC surfing other sites with facebook components embedded.

  • I had the same problem in getting a white screen only when logging into Facebook. I created a new account using my wife’s information except I used my e-mail address which I did not use for Facebook. I was able to log in and even sent myself (old account) a friend request which I was able to okay from my cell phone (which still worked on Facebook). At this point I changed the name on the new account to the name on the old account, as soon as I did this Facebook logged me back into the old account and I could sign onto both accounts. I deactivated the new account, and the next day my old account again only gave me a white screen, so I had to reactivate the new account. My old account is still not working!

This is beyond bizarre and the stranger is that it’s not being reported by mainstream. By the looks of it, it’s not just an isolated issue by all the comments I am reading. Thank you for the update. Sorry you had to go through all of what you did.
